Plakias

In the middle of southern Crete and 34 km from the city of Rethymno, is the seaside tourist settlement of Plakias. The beach of Plakias is one of the largest beaches in Crete, 1.3 km long. The beach starts in front of Plakias and extends east along the coastal road.

It is an organized beach with turquoise waters, with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, showers, beach volleyball, as well as organized water sports and diving lessons. There is also plenty of free space to place your own beach equipment.

From the harbor of Plakias, located at the west end of the beach, you can take the boats for a daily cruise to the magnificent beach of Preveli with the palm forest. Other nearby beaches in Plakias are the beach of Souda, Koraka and Polyrizos from the west, and the beaches of Ammoudi, Damnoni and Schinaria from the east.
